Oil emulsion, graphite, coloured pencil, soft pastel and dry pigment on plaster on Styrofoam

73 x 49 cm

Artist: Esther Hoflick (CA)

Esther Hoflick's work explores the relationship between internal perception and the physical world, engaging with new materialist philosophies. Through a dynamic balance of abstraction and representation, her paintings emphasize the inseparability of surface and pigment, echoing the interconnectedness of humans and their environment. Utilizing oil emulsion on plaster, her practice fosters a dialogue between emergence and transformation, where the paintings assert their presence as objects interacting with space and time. Esther Hoflick, a professor of Fine Arts at Northwestern Polytechnic in Alberta Canada, holds an MFA from the University of Ottawa (2019). Her career is informed by experiences spanning rural Ontario, Montreal, and the Yukon. She co-founded Night Owl Contemporary in Montreal and has exhibited widely across Canada, including at the Art Gallery of Guelph, Galerie UQO, and Karsh Mason Gallery in Ottawa.
